Community Golf Course
The Snowflake Community Golf Course is a
unique asset to the community, as it is owned and operated by
the Town of Snowflake. Developed as a recreational opportunity
for the residents of Snowflake, town management developed the
course on land donated by developers, and provides a scenic
backdrop to many of the homes in the area, as well as a quiet
foreground to the new Snowflake Temple that overlooks the
course.
The course averages 29,000 rounds per year,
with the majority of those rounds (especially in the months
from October to April--approximately 80%) used by
"locals." However, with the growing popularity of
the Snowflake Golf Course, the majority of rounds the
remainder of the year are used by visitors, who enjoy the
economical rates, well manicured greens, and Snowflakes cool
summer days.
A resident of Snowflake since 1981, Steve came
to work with the Town's golf course under a lease arrangement
from 1987-1993. With family members from Snowflake, Steve sees
the course as a unique opportunity for the Town to extend the
family atmosphere of the community to improve the quality of
life for the entire town. Active in the community, Steve has
been a Class A member of the PGA America since 1998. With a
business degree from Arizona State University, Steve also
serves as the coach of the local high school golf team.
Together with GCSAA-certified Course Superintendent Mark
Wilson and two full-time employees, Steve ensures that the
course is always ready for challenging play for the residents
and visitors to Snowflake. "It's our goal that the
citizens feel that this is 'their course'", says Steve,
"and from our groundskeeping to our programs, we've
structured the course to support that goal."
