Recreation and Parks
The Recreation
and Parks Department is
responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of community public
park and recreation areas, and the community cemetery. The
Department of 4 includes a Park Superintendent, Cemetery
worker, Right-of-Way worker, Parks worker, and a seasonal pool
staff of 8-9 instructor/lifeguards.
The Department is also responsible for
maintaining the entrances to the Town, public right-of-ways,
and maintenance of the Main Street lighting. The lightposts
are enhanced during the summer season with flowers, and
Snowflakes during the winter holiday season.
The Town offers a wide variety of recreational
programs (click here) to it's residents, made possible by a joint
facility use agreement with the Snowflake Unified School
District.
Thursday Night at the Park is a summer offering at Pioneer
Park. June through mid-August will find crowds gathered round
the Band Shell at the park for a variety of free
entertainment. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy!
A resident of Snowflake for over 21 years, Don
moved to Snowflake to be near family. Originally from Hawaii,
Don has extensive experience in developing recreation
programs. A graduate of Brigham Young University with a
Masters in Parks and Recreation Management, Don and his staff
are committed to meeting the wants and needs of the public.
"We strive to continue to improve the quality of our
facilities," says Don, "and to ensure that our
programs work well with the small-town atmosphere that makes
Snowflake such a special place to raise a family."
To keep the residents active, the Department
offers a diverse recreation program, and even has plans for a
fourplex ballfield and Community Recreation Center in the future. Always working to
keep current with the pulse of his community, Don encourages
residents to contact his office with suggestions on the
programs. "As a small community, we have the flexibility
to add or enhance programs that are recreational and
educational as the need arises," Don says.
"Frequently, we'll have residents with special skills or
talents, and our recreation programs can serve as that outlet
for them to share with other residents, provided that the
facilities exist and are available."
