Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan

RE: Town of Snowflake updates Hazard Mitigation Plan

In 2010-11, a planning team comprised of representatives from the Town of Snowflake along with other jurisdictions within Navajo County conducted regular meetings to update and amend the existing Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The development of this plan was required by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA2K).

The DMA2K requires all local, county, tribal and state governments to have a FEMA approved hazard mitigation plan in order to be eligible for federal hazard mitigation funds.  The plan focuses on the most threatening hazards to citizens and property and provides a strategy to reduce or eliminate the risk from those hazards.

The planning team completed a draft plan in 2011, at which time the public was provided with the opportunity to review the plan and submit comments.  The draft plan was finalized and received approval from FEMA.  On May 8, 2012 the Snowflake Town Council reviewed and adopted the plan.
